Savoring Summer

Even though summer days are getting longer, we know how quickly summer vacation flies by. In a few short weeks we'll be buying school supplies and hauling out text books. So this summer we've come up with a plan to use our free time wisely and creatively.

Each girl had to choose:

  • A devotional plan for a quiet time in the mornings
  • A musical goal for her instrument - whether a new piece to learn on the piano and violin or several chords on the guitar
  • Learn something new
  • Read 4 books
  • A hand craft to do (or improve) - sewing, drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting...etc.
  • A Physical activity: jogging, walking, hiking or swim team.
While we're not on a schedule, our days are divided into sections using time for reading, creating, music, projects, outdoor activities and some summer household projects.

Each week we're planning morning hikes (Tuesdays) beach days (Thursdays) and a library afternoon (Fridays).

Of course, we can't forget to do a Hollywood Bowl Concert or some free summer concerts in the park.

Travel plans include: San Diego for the 4th of July weekend for a church conference; a week in Michigan to visit family; and a week camping in King's Canyon in August.

I think it's going to be a good summer. :)
