Martha's Vineyard

Ron and I just returned from a weekend on Martha's Vineyard. Our friends from church, Chris and Stephanie, were getting married there and asked Ron to officiate the wedding. Since we were already on the East Coast (Maryland) for a Pastor's Conference, we just flew up to Rhode Island, took a shuttle van to Massachusetts and then got on a ferry from Wood's Hole to the island.

We had an absolutely wonderful time! Although the weather was rainy and cold, we got to tour a couple of the towns - Edgartown, Aquinnah and Menemsha. We stayed in Oak Bluffs in a quaint, beachy cottage B&B, Isabelle's, right on the ocean.

Behind us was a little neighborhood full of Victorian "gingerbread" homes. Ron and I braved the cold and blustery wind Sunday morning and strolled through the gingerbread neighborhood to the little downtown and had breakfast in one of the few restaurants opened during this off season.

The wedding was held in Aquinnah next to the lighthouse- overlooking dramatic cliffs towering above the oceanside. In a week of rainy days, Saturday was the only dry day - allowing Chris and Stephanie to have the wedding they dreamed of and planned for.

I think we've found a new favorite place. We're already planning to go there again next year, if we can. We had a great time at the wedding - meeting new people, making friends and hanging out with Chris' family and enjoying the lovely scenery. But, we'd like to come again with just the two of us for another get away.
