We survived our family vacation - camping at the beach in Santa Barbara. Despite the several days of rain, cold nights, losing food (3 times - in 3 different types of containers!) to a very tenacious skunk and losing a brand new shade canopy to gusty winds, sleeping in the back of the van to escape the freezing winds, playing Yahtzee in the rain, and getting a bacterial eye infection... we did manage to have some good times: picnics, fun at the beach, hikes, bike rides, reading and talking by the campfire, cooking up an awesome steak dinner and a couple day trips into Goleta, Santa Barbara and Ventura for Starbucks and shopping.
We won't even mention the time Andrea's hair caught on fire the first night...

Here's a few snapshots from our trip:
First hour: tail light trouble, seeking help at U-Haul, waiting, and right before we leave....dead battery.
El Capitan, Santa Barbara. Favorite Camping site.
Flying the Friesian Flag!
1st day: raining... so we went inland to Solvang
This is the view from our tent.
Picnic by the coast.
Nasturtium forest. Favorite place to walk each day.
Secluded little cove - we spent our last afternoon here.
Look closely - see the snake?
