Fun with Donna

Our international student has arrived and has been with us for a week now. Her "American" name is Donna, she's Taiwanese but lives in China. She speaks English very well so that makes it easy for us. The first few days she was here she was very shy and quiet but now I think she is used to us and is much more talkative. She is polite and very sweet and easy to have in our home. We spend a lot of time laughing and making jokes - which means she is very smart - if she can understand the subtleties of joking in another language. I think she laughs AT us, too!

Our girls have been very good with her, asking her questions, playing lots of games together, dancing, and entertaining her. While Tiffany was here for dinner last night she taught them some cheerleading tricks which they all loved!

We have a couple of animals that visit us once in a while - a raccoon, an occasional coyote, and a squirrel that the girls have named Tim. Donna seems to be fascinated by the prospect of seeing these animals and has been on a daily quest to catch a glimpse of any of them. This has been dominating much of our conversation. Which makes for some very funny moments.

Ron: We are going to the fireworks (replace with wedding or church or any other activity) tonight, Donna, would you like to come?
Donna: will there be coyotes there?

Donna: what do coyotes eat?
Ron: small animals, rabbits, chicken...unattended toddlers
Donna: will the coyotes go to McDonald's to get chicken?
Ron: No, they won't let the coyotes in the restaurant

Yesterday we made popcorn and she and the girls placed it at various spots in the yard in hopes of luring animals to the house. It hasn't worked so far...but we're hoping for a night-time visit from "Chips" the raccoon soon!

For the 4th of July, we bought white t-shirts, stars, buttons, ribbons, and sparkle puff paints to make our own Patriotic Shirts to wear to the fireworks later that night. The girls had a good time being creative. We'll post some pictures soon.
