Potential Pitfalls

I've been listening to a CD from Nancy Leigh De Moss titled: Pitfalls
It's addressed to women in ministry (and applicable to women married to pastors or care group leaders) and helps identify common dangers we need to be aware of.

In keeping with the theme of "being careful how you live" - I'm listening to the message, taking notes and identifying the pitfalls that are temptations in my life.

Here's a list of her main points:

The common pitfalls that we need to watch out for:

1. Losing the wonder (of our salvation, of God's saving and changing power in people's lives.) Don't operate on auto-pilot.

2. Proclaiming truth that we're not living. Is our private practice consistent with our public proclamation?

3. Neglecting personal relationship with the Lord. Are we tending to and nurturing our own "vineyard"? Or are we experiencing a "slow leak"?

4. Relying on natural gifts and talents. Are we anxious because of lack of staff? Does our life reflect a dependence on God's power?

5. Leaving the pathway of humility.

6. Losing a servant's heart.

7. Failing to resolve conflicts biblically.

8. Settling for the status quo.

9. Serving without love.

10. Losing perspective. (Failure to see how big God is can lead to discouragement.)

11. Expressing discontentment. (do I encourage others?)

12. Seeking personal comfort and convenience.
