The last time we had a wild fire close to our home, was 16 years ago when I was pregnant with Paige. As the ash and smell of smoke in our neighborhood made it difficult to breathe, some good friends of ours came to pick me and the kids up to take us to their house for the night. As we were getting in the car, Zach ran back into the house to get something "very important," he said. As he came back into the house, he was carrying a book that I had been reading to him and Courtney about the new baby and how it was developing each month. I thought that it was a very sweet gesture for him to think that this book was important to our family - I think it was somehow, in his mind, tied into the event of having a new baby.
Tonight, as we were preparing to leave to go to Zach's concert, the girls were a little worried about leaving the house with the fires in the mountains behind our home. We're actually not in danger yet, but it does look ominous out there. So I asked them what they wanted to take. I told them that we could put pictures and important documents in the car and anything else they wanted. Their answer? They wanted us to take our clothes for Zach's wedding so they'd be safe in case the house burned down. That way, even if we lost everything else, we at least could go to the wedding. :)
