After seeing a story on Good Morning America about a woman who uses coupons and only pays a ridiculously low price, I'm inspired to learn more about saving money and clipping coupons for our family.A couple of years ago, I did The Grocery Game, but didn't stick with it. Although I do have fond memories of actually being applauded by the people in line as I was handed my receipt and the checker told me I saved 56% - my total savings was higher than my bill.
The girls have all rallied and we are are making this a family effort - in order to save money and spend more wisely. I am currently doing research and finding websites that help you figure out what to buy and when. And I've re-joined the Grocery Game.
This week, since we just started, and we didn't have a huge inventory of coupons to draw from, I wasn't sure how we'd fare. Our bill was: $282.28. We paid: $149.55. Savings: $132.73 / 48%.
YAY! (This wasn't just for food. We also bought shampoo, toothpaste, laundry supplies, batteries, razors, soap, etc, to store for future use.)
While my first venture was not spectacular, and I have a long way to go before being like the woman in the story, the store supervisor, who was my checker did congratulate me and tell me that I did a good job. :)
