Pay Attention to Finances: Saving Money

One of the areas that I'm working hard at is in the category of saving money in my "job" as the household manager: bargain shopping, coupon clipping, reworking our menus and grocery shopping, managing my time better so I'm cooking more and going out to eat less, preparing simpler meals, figuring out where we're wasting money and making changes to stop it. I'm also going to try to plant a small garden this year.

Things I'm doing:

Grocery Game (saved $100 on my groceries last week)

Not Wasting Fresh Produce (average family throws away $600 per year of spoiled produce).

$5 Dinners

Cooking by Numbers (website that lets you plug in the ingredients you have on hand and generates meal ideas for you.)

We're also going to try our hand at an Urban Garden with Square Foot Gardening
I'm doing research and asking friends who garden to help me get started.

By paying attention to how I'm spending my time and managing my household, cutting corners and being frugal, I can save our family thousands of dollars each year. Just eliminating going out to eat once a week as a family of 6 ($35 x 52) can save us $1820 a year! Saving $100 a week on groceries = $5200 a year! Being careful with fresh produce: $600. Just these three changes can save over $7500.
