Tomorrow is Ashley's Birthday. Her 12th. Our family tradition is to take the girls away for their twelfth birthday for a weekend girls' getaway - a 'Mom & Me' time.I had to be very creative this year - Ron needed the car and we're in a "save- don't spend" season.
No car. No money. Credit cards are forbidden. Hmmm.... What to do?
I remembered that we had two unused gift cards - one to a Marriott and one to an Outback restaurant (Ashley's favorite!). So, my assignment - find a hotel near a train station that's near an Outback - and in a desirable location.
Voila! Long Beach!
I remembered the last time Ron and I were there we walked past the Metro Station and saw a Courtyard a few blocks away. Although we had taken our car to Long Beach - we ended up walking everywhere and didn't use the car the entire weekend until it was time to leave. We had a great time ambling all over town. AND, two years ago, I had dinner at Outback with some girlfriends when we were in town for the CHEA Convention.
Perfect. Metro to Long Beach. Marriott Hotel just a couple of blocks away. Outback restaurant just down by the Harbor - easy walking distance. Practically free!

Way to go, Mom! Awesome creativity! And how kind of God to provide those gift cards. :) As fellow creative-budgeters and blessed recipients of gift cards and such, Zach and I totally know that feeling of excitement. I hope you and Ashley have a WONDERFUL time together!!
How fabulous! That's amazing how God provided so creatively. Happy, happy birthday Ashley!
